Juliette Volcker in France has produced a good panorama about what is supposed to be sound design in our times.
We could focus on the more general notion of design, inherited of creative industries, and growing at digital age.
To begin this self-observation in a modest and maybe anecdotic way, we will look back at our recent artistic collaborations, which cross sound and music creation with other media, and question the very category of new sound design for activities which in our practices have to see with our own expertise : musical and intermedia composition.
To begin, we’ll look at the evolution of the credits mentioned for our works,
what changes are they the symptoms of ?

However, we observe that the credits that mention our productions are changing : sound creation replaces music, even when it is done to be listened, heard as music.and not as speak, information and mediation.
… Musicians are in front of a new division of labour tasks, depending of the context of exploitation of the works.
Sound designing is then supposed to be their new credits.
…in a world where music is sometimes supposed to be reduced as an art of notes, modal fonctions and regular pulsations, compatible with AI algorithmes and platforms of new culture and creative industries…
In a word where disciplines, and conferences and research projects are fragmented in the name of interdisciplinarities, in order to invente new specialities, to develop new methods, new opportunities and so on…
